The 180th Annual Convention of the Diocese of Michigan, meeting in Lansing, Michigan on October 23-24, 2014, took the following action:
ADOPTED a 2015 Diocesan Budget in the amount of $2,264,598.
ADOPTED a Canonical amendment creating the Election Committee including conforming requirements; ADOPTED several minor and conforming canonical refinements and clarifications.
ADOPTED as submitted the following resolutions: Resolution 3 – “Reauthorizing the Ability to Solicit Financial Support for the Justice and Peace Advocacy and Social Service Support Ministries”; Resolution 4 –“Building Bridges Through Faith Based Organizing”; Resolution 5 – “Further Enactment of General Convention 2012 Resolutions by Diocese of Michigan Congregations”; Resolution 6 – “Child Well-Being: Focus on Education and Poverty”; Resolution 7 – “Solutions to Gun Violence”. (Resolutions 1 and 2 were withdrawn by their originators.)
ELECTED Paula Martin and the Rev. Steven Kelly to the Cathedral Chapter; Elizabeth Anderson, Judith Schellhammer and the Rev. Ronald Byrd as Delegates to Provincial Synod; Edie Wakevainen and the Rev. Juan Perez to the Disciplinary Board; Peter Trumbore and the Rev. William Roberts to the Standing Committee; Kay A. Bell, Edward Hammond, Carl Pfadt, Guy Thomas and the Very Rev. Susan Carter to the Trustees.
RECEIVED the Bishop’s appointments of Bruce Cann and the Rev. Ellis Clifton to the Commission on Ministry and Cedric Flounory, the Ven. Bill Fineout and Bruce Cann to the Election Committee.
WELCOMED into our midst our partners in ministry from the Dominican Development Group and companion diocese of the Dominican Republic,
HEARD Special Orders of Business presented by: Robert Brutell, chair of the Interfaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit (Bishop Gibbs accepted the Interfaith Leadership Award); The Rev. Michelle Meech on the Lower Peninsula Diversity Task Force; Eric Travis, Youth and Young Adult Missioner; The Rt. Rev. Julio Holguin and the Revs. Juan Perez and Marcia Ledford on Latin@ Ministry and our companion relationship with the Dominican Republic; the Revs. Reid Hamilton and Sarah Midzalkowski, chaplains at Canterbury U of M and One Community, East Lansing, respectively.
RATIFIED the acceptance of the congregation of Holy Faith, Saline as a parish of our diocese.
PARTICIPATED in inspiring worship offered in Spanish and in English, including an uplifting sermon by the Rt. Rev. Julio Holguin, Bishop of the Dominican Republic.
HEARD a most inspiring Convention Address by the Rt. Rev. Wendell N. Gibbs, Jr., Tenth Bishop of Michigan.
APPROVED the date and location of the 181st Convention of the Diocese as October 23-24, 2015 in Novi, Michigan.
