The Saturday Series offers lay and clergy members of the diocese a wonderful opportunity to take part in serious academic study through our new Academy for Vocational Leadership.  The Academy is specifically for the training of deacons and total ministry support teams, but we are opening up the academic classes to all interested people.  Lectures are offered by members of the faculty of the Seminary of the Southwest via video and discussions are led by our local mentors from the Dioceses of Michigan and Eastern Michigan.

The Saturday Series now offers three great choices:

satseries-yobYear One is the Year of the Bible which offers a survey of the Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament.  It is led by the Rev. Dr. Valerie Fargo of the Diocese of Eastern Michigan.  This class is recommended for all those who are current and potential lay preachers or Bible study leaders as well as anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of Scripture.  Beginning in 2015 those training to be licensed lay preachers will need this or a comparable course in the Bible.  Read more about and register for the Year of the Bible here.

satseries-chYear Two is an introduction to Church History.  It is led by the Rev. Eric M. Williams of the Diocese of Michigan.  This class is recommended for all those who wish to deepen their understanding of the development of Christianity.  There is a special focus on the history of the Church of England, Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church.  Read more about and register for Church History here.
