Bishop Perry is pleased to invite you to attend an upcoming two-day workshop “An Introduction to Community Organizing”. The facilitator for the event, is Michael Gecan, a veteran organizer, and co-executive director of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). He has worked in both Chicago and New York City and is the author of Going Public: An Organizer’s Guide to Citizen Action as well as Effective Organizing for Congregational Renewal.

The core objectives of the Community Organizing for Congregational Development training are to:

  • Learn the basic options for public engagement and congregational renewal: Service, Mobilizing , and Organizing
  • Identify the key concepts and tools of organizing: Power and power analysis, Leadership identification and training, Public relationship building, Designing and implementing effective action, Meaningful evaluation afterwards

The cost is $100 per person for the 2 day training, with partial scholarship assistance available upon request.
