Episcopal Transition in 

The Diocese of Michigan

 

January 9, 2018 Bishop Wendell Gibbs, Jr. announces his plans to retire and calls for the election of a new bishop
February 8, 2018 The Standing Committee names members of the Search and Nomination Committee
March 16-17, 2018 Mandatory retreat for members of the Search and Nomination Committee
April 5, 2018 The Standing Committee names members of the Transitions Committee
April 13-14, 2018 Mandatory retreat for members of the Transitions Committee
End of Summer/early Fall Diocesan profile is released and the process of receiving names of candidates for bishop begins
Late October/early November, 2018 Nominations are closed
November 2018-February 2019 The Search and Nominations Committee conducts interviews with candidates
Early March, 2019 The slate of candidates is announced
Mid-to-late March, 2019 Period is open for petition candidates
Mid-May, 2019 Walkabouts (candidates tour the diocese)
June 1, 2019 Special Election Convention
November 1, 2019 Bishop-elect joins the diocesan staff
December 31, 2019 Bishop Gibbs retires
(tentative) February 8, 2020 Ordination/Consecration of the 11th Bishop of Michigan
