Future Programs

Future Programs

In the upcoming year, we plan to explore and discover these programs:

DTW Airport Chaplaincy

One area of formation that we will focus on is the DTW Interfaith Airport Chaplaincy at the Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). In conjunction with Wayne County Airport Authority and a coalition of Interfaith Leaders, we hope to engage lay ministers to exercise faith and share love through service as Airport Chaplains, with supporting formation opportunities.

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

We are working closely with the Seminary of the Southwest’s Iona Collaborative CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) program and supervision to provide CPE through short term retreats, local institutional ministry time and video conference supervision and webinar education. This will support our requirement for CPE of anyone seeking holy orders.

Education for Ministry (EfM)

EfM has been a meaningful formation for many people in the past and we are exploring ways to offer it again. We are seeking lay leadership in this area.

Lay Leadership Certification

The Whitaker Institute historically offered a Lay Leadership formation program and we hope to do so again. Here, we will connect the work of the Commission on Ministry to affirm the importance of Lay Leadership and Lay Ministry.

Pilgrimage to The Holy Land

In November 2019, the Whitaker Institute offers again a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where we will spend eleven days exploring many of the major sites connected with the life of Jesus. We will stay at St. George’s Anglican College in Jerusalem and visit many of the most significant places in Jesus’ life and ministry including Bethlehem, the Jordan River, Capernaum, the Church of the Holy Selpulchre, and many more. Like the 2016 pilgrimage, we will pray, sing hymns and celebrate the Holy Eucharist in several holy places while learning about the lives and struggles of Palestinians. Our excellent local tour guide will again be Iyad Qumri. Find more information on the pilgrimage here.

Whitaker Library

As our website becomes finalized, we will also add a link to the library catalog so that those seeking resources can search our local library for educational materials needed at a local level.
