Become a Licensed Lay Preacher!

 

What: In conjunction with the Academy for Vocational Leadership, the Whitaker Institute offers the opportunity to learn preaching as part of the Bible year plus six in-depth courses on the craft of preaching. Licenses are granted upon completion of the entire program year of bible. This course grounds participants in scripture and theology while equipping in the craft of preaching.

Who: All who feel called to preach are invited to become a licensed lay preacher.

When: Ten Saturdays (once a month, from September through June) from 9am -3pm, plus six Saturday evenings (October through March) specifically on Preaching, from 7 to 9pm.

Saturday schedule:  

8:45 Morning Prayer with student preacher

9:15 Academic classes begin

11:55 Noonday Prayer followed by Lunch

1:00 Academic Classes resume

3:30 Classes end / break

5:30 Dinner

6:15 Evening Prayer with student preacher

7pm Preaching classes until 9pm (other students in other practicum classes)

 

Where: Colombiere Retreat Center, Clarkston, MI

How: Application for participation with short interview, Upon acceptance to the program, you will be assigned a Preaching Mentor during this period, who will work with you for review and conversation. As part of the training, you will be asked to preach at congregation (either your own, or at another, organized by Whitaker Institute) at least 6 times during the period. Lay preachers will be assigned a Preaching Mentor during this period and will work with that person for review and conversation.  Participants are expected to complete the readings, watch the videos, write papers and preach in class and in their congregations between sessions. //CLICK HERE or scroll down  to apply & register

Pricing: To complete both the Saturday Series and the Homiletics Class, price is $500. Alternatively, one can complete the courses individually. The pricing of the entire Saturday Series is $400 and the Homiletics course is $150 (requires some biblical prerequisite studies).
