A Statement from Bishop Bonnie A. Perry following Charlie Kirk’s Death and Evergreen High School Shooting in Colorado
September 10, 2025
Dear Friends,
I am aghast that someone has shot and killed Mr. Charlie Kirk. At about the same time three young people were shot at Evergreen High School in Colorado. The students are all in critical condition.
The prevalence of gun violence in our country is fast becoming our country’s greatest sin.
We as people of faith must unite and take action. Our prayers will be our actions.
The ready access to guns in our country is the primary reason why gun violence is the number one cause of childhood deaths.
People of faith can no longer stand by hoping and wishing that this violence goes away.
Our prayers must be the actions we each take to end our tacit acceptance of this gratuitous violence.
I will continue to work to change our culture, so that our country will respect the dignity of every human being.
Join me in this embodied prayer.
