ADVOCACY DAY 101: Q&A

What is End Gun Violence Michigan advocating for? End Gun Violence Michigan is advocating to make sure that the politicians know where we stand. We will be focusing on a number of important issues, including ghost guns, bump stocks, gun dealer licensing, and funding for gun violence prevention. We have the opportunity to pass bipartisan legislation reforming Personal Protection Orders (PPOs), so that survivors of domestic violence no longer have to pay to have these orders served. It is critical that we have a strong coalition present to support this legislation!

What are advocacy days?  Advocacy days allow your supporters to get in front of and speak directly with lawmakers to share their personal stories. It helps put faces to the issues your organization is advocating for.

What are examples of advocacy? Advocacy examples include meetings and discussions with government representatives, and influencing legislation by negotiating the details of a bill.

Is advocacy a good thing? Advocacy is an important lever for a productive government. Without it, governments would struggle to sort out the many, many competing interests of its citizens. Fortunately, advocacy provides access to government legislators, acts as an educational tool, and allows individual interests to gain power in numbers.
