Bishop Bonnie Perry Applauds New Gun Violence Prevention Actions from President Biden and Vice President Harris
WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 26, 2024 — The Rt. Rev. Dr. Bonnie A. Perry, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, said the executive orders and other actions announced today by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will help bring about an end to the uniquely American epidemic of gun violence.
“I am proud and honored to stand alongside our president and vice president as they work to protect us from more senseless gun violence,” said Perry. “Today’s actions will save lives and move our country closer to a future where our children don’t live in fear of dying in their classrooms.”
Perry will attend the White House ceremony today where President Biden and Vice President Harris will discuss the new executive orders and other actions.
Perry has spent decades working against gun violence, including as co-founder and co-convener of the Diocese of Chicago’s CROSSWalk initiative. She is one of the conveners of Bishops United Against Gun Violence and a co-founder and president of End Gun Violence Michigan.
Today’s announcements included a new executive order directing federal agencies to improve school-based active shooter drills and combat the emerging threats of machinegun conversion devices and unserialized, 3D-printed firearms. They come on the one-year anniversary of the White House’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention. The full announcement from the White House can be found here.
