January 9, 2018 – Bishop Wendell Gibbs, Jr. announces his plans to retire and calls for the election of a new bishop

February 8, 2018 – Search and Nomination Committee (SNC) announced

March 16-17, 2018 – Mandatory Retreat for SNC

April 13-14, 2018 – Mandatory Retreat for Transitions Committee (TC)

Prior to Sept. 30, 2018 – Profile is released and names are received

Oct. 1, 2018-Nov.30, 2018 – Applications accepted

Dec 3, 2018-Jan.31, 2019 – SNC conducts interviews

February 2019 – SNC  Discernment Retreat with candidates

February 27, 2019 – Names provided by SNC to Standing Committee

March 4, 2019 – Slate is announced* and petition process is opened

March 18, 2019 – Petition process closes

May 17-19, 2019 –Bishop Candidates Walkabouts

Friday, May 17, 7:00pm at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit
Saturday, May 18, 4:00pm at All Saints’, East Lansing
Sunday, May 19, 3:30pm at St. Clare’s, Ann Arbor

June 1, 2019 – Electing Convention

November 1, 2019 – Bishop-elect joins staff

December 31, 2019 – Bishop Gibbs retires

February 8, 2020 – Ordination/Consecration of the 11th Bishop of Michigan

February 9, 2020 – Investiture (Seating of New Bishop at Cathedral)

 

NOTES:

*Diocesan Canon 1.3.2.6 requires that the slate be announced within 60 to 90 days prior to the Electing Convention.

**The best practice is to have the walkabouts within 2 to 3 weeks of the Electing Convention.
