Convention Documents

The Diocese of Michigan is looking for photos and videos for two special projects for this year’s virtual Diocesan Convention:

Diocesan Year in Review
The Diocesan offices are compiling a video for Diocesan Convention showcasing all that we have gone through together this year. We would love photos and video clips from your experiences, including (but not limited to!) services, meetings, projects, events, coffee and fellowship hours, book studies, weddings, baptisms, graduations, memorials and more! We would love to have photos or videos representing each congregation, so please submit them here!

Be a Part of Our Virtual Congregation
As this year’s convention will be virtual, Bishop Perry still wants to see your faces as she delivers her first convention address! If you would like to join, please send us a photo of your face so we can print it and place it in the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit for convention! Send photos to Anna Stania at

Dear Members of Diocesan Convention:

On behalf of our bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Bonnie A. Perry, I am pleased to share this information with you regarding The 186th Convention of the Diocese of Michigan. Although we are not able to be together in person this year, I am excited by our ability to gather for worship, conduct the business of the diocese and to have fun together by using the latest video conferencing technology! We are pleased that all will be able to participate in our on-line event; clergy, lay delegates and all who are interested in attending our annual gathering. Information on how to join all of the Zoom events as well as contact information so that technical support can be requested will come at a later date.

Please note:

Convention Schedule: A draft schedule is included with this packet. Pre-convention workshops are being planned for Friday morning and afternoon. Workshop descriptions and registration information will be shared prior to convention. The first business session convenes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Election of Officers: Voting will be done virtually through an on-line program, Election Runner. Prior to convention, we plan to have a practice election so that you may have an opportunity to work through this and ask questions. We will notify you of the date of this practice election and will also send detailed instructions. As always, we will have support from members of the Election Commission for you to call/email should you have questions or require any assistance. A link to the booklet containing candidate information is below.

Rules of Order & Dispatch of Business: This document has been updated to reflect procedures for a virtual event. Don’t panic! It looks a lot more confusing that it really is. We will take our time to explain to process prior to the sessions on Friday and Saturday.

Report of the Committee on Constitution and Canons: The link for this committee report is below. This year, we will consider the second reading of changes to the Constitution of our diocese that was considered in 2019.

Committee on Reference Report: The committee is not in receipt of any proposed resolutions in advance of the canonically required deadline. Any late filed resolutions will be considered by title only at the opening session and must have the approval of two-thirds of the members of Convention to be considered during convention. Please email late filed resolutions to me at, with a copy to the chair of the Committee on Reference, the Rev. Judith Schellhammer at

Lay Delegate Changes: Please contact Jennifer Elliott ( as soon as you are aware of changes in your lay delegation. You may also leave a message for Jennifer at 313.833.4414.

Remembering the Deceased Members of Convention – “The Necrology”: Members of convention (lay delegates and clergy) who have died since our last gathering will be remembered during the Friday evening session of convention. Please send names via email to Canon Jo Ann Hardy (

You will find our convention packet documents here and our diocesan website:

I am grateful for the work of the bishop’s staff, and the Virtual Convention Planning Team (The Very Rev. Andrea Morrow, Chair) our chancellor, our parliamentarian, and all who continue to make plans for our time together.

Please contact me at, or Canon Jo Ann Hardy ( if we can provide any additional information. We look forward to hearing from you, and to your participation in our virtual convention.
